Hi,
At the end of last year I acquired this 1942 Norton 16H which had been untouched since the early 90s. I am currently stripping it to get it back to running condition. The front mudguard is clearly not 16H and I assumed some sort of 'universal' pattern part, however somebody has suggested that it looks like a Norton International front mudguard.
I would be interested in any more opinions on this! Many thanks,Simon

Hi Simon,
not sure whether they have mudguards but have you tried Russell Motors?
The forums on wdnorton.nl (norton only) and wdbsa.nl (general wartime bikes) are both good places for any info on these machines.
Looks like a nice project.

Hi Iain,
I have tried Russel Motors, yes. Sadly they couldn't help me although I have acquired a number of other parts from them.
The wdnorton site is a fantastic source. I will post on their message board on the off chance somebody has a mudguard.
Many thanks,Simon

There's a photo of a 1939 Inter in Roy Bacon's book "Norton Singles" and it doesn't look like yours, Simon.Your one has the front stays looping over the mudgaurd. The photo of the Inter doesn't.George

Simon, fancy bumping into you on here !
The advice to post on the WD forums is good and don't ignore Henk's WD Motorcycles site. The forum is more active and BSA or Triumph owners are more likely to sell a Norton guard than a Norton chap. Added to this, the Dutch have been plundering UK jumbles for years...
The original guards are snapped up pretty quickly as they were fitted right across the pre-war SV/ OHV range.
I don' think that your guard is Norton. There were some fitted with external stays on the 'Comp' models but always with a shorter more rounded nose. Yours makes me think more of Triumph or Royal Enfield (but not with those stays).
I suspect that it is a generic modern reproduction. Closer examination of the edge beads might give a clue. Does the bike have an 18" wheel ? I'm puzzled by the amount of clearance considering that the standard bridge fixing is only about 1" long.
Some close-up photos might help.

Thanks for the feedback guys.
I have found a number of pictures of Norton Internationals with very similar looking mudguards, like the one attached.
Really I just want to make sure I haven't actually got an original Norton mudguard before discarding it!
Oh well, back to the search for a 16H front mudguard!
Thanks,Simon

Simon, that's a modern restoration with rather non-original tank lining, a smaller post-war headlamp and, horror of horrors, chromed fork side links which have no place on a sporting motorcycle (or any Norton come to that !). There is a good chance that the mudguard is pattern too.
Someone will want that guard though, don't bin it !

Hello all,
I suppose nobody has any thoughts on my front mudguard??
I would be interested in an original 16H mudguard if anybody know where I could source one. I haven't had much luck looking in the usual places...
Many thanks,Simon
