The insulated handlebars

Forums

Dear friends!

I am looking for information how the steel plate is mounted to handlebars of my mod.18 1939.

Hi

The U shaped plate can be welded, brazed, or riveted to the handlebars. If this is not done the bars will rotate in the rubber bushes.

If welded or brazed this should ideally be done before chrome plating the bars. Riveting can be done after plating but I find that pop rivets are not really strong enough. They have failed on my 1937 bike twice now.

Stu Rogershas supplied bare steel bars in the past butthe last time I asked he had no stock.

Hope this helps

Thank you very much, Ian!

But I did not understand: is there single plate or double? What thickness of this plate (or plates)?

Is it possible to get some pictures of handlebars with plate?

Yuri.

Hello Yuri,

The insulated handlebars you refer to have aclip wrapped around the handle bars and brazed. Welding is not recommended and riveting is definitely not recommended.

I have had two pairs of these handlebars made in the past - if you get stuck I can get you a price for some.

Ken Mackintosh in Nwe Zealand has the insulated handlebars for the International models. Contact details are in Roadholder

Hi Yuri,

Plate should be double for brazing, see photo. This example is riveted but as Roger says it is not recommended.

I remember seeing some information from George Cohen where heshowed a drawing of asingle plate TIG welded to the bar (maybe in an old Roadholder). If you contact George via his website http://www.norton.uk.com/he may be able to give you the details.

I bought my plate from Stu Rogers +44 19 4558 5116
