Hole in Crankcase behind alternator ES2

Forums

I have a 1961 norton ES2 that has oil dripping from a small hole on a boss on the bottom of the crankcase directly behind the alternator. What is this hole for and should there be oil leaking out. It only seems to happen when I am turning over the engine with the kickstarter. The engine has not been started as of yet and has been sitting unused for an unknown length of time.

..  the engine has wet sumped as you say it hasn't been run for some time. That means that much of the oil in the oil tank has drained down into the crankcase. You can drain it out by removing the crankcase drain plug.
