I want to replace the seals on the gearshift and kickstarter lever in the outer cover. Will the kickstarter bush and gearshift bush fall out if I heat up in the oven and knock on to a piece of wood? I suspect the steel kickstarter bush will but what about the copper gearshift bush?

Just a note to say that, in my experience, the X-rings are indeed superb compared to the original O-rings, but the one on my gearshift did not survive one removal of the outer cover â so forgive me if I'm stating the obvious but get spares before you need them.

You should be able to replace the seal without removing the bushes. I can personally vouch for the "X ring" type over the normal O rings.
