If your bike has an alloy…
If your bike has an alloy head, the valve seat inserts should be able to cope with unleaded fuel without a lead replacement additive. In my bikes and elderly Land Rovers I use BP Ultimate petrol. Once in a while I pop in a little 2 stroke oil andthat's about it. Seems to be working for me. I have avoided sealing any petrol tanks - too many tales of woe.

Don't use slosh or petseal. Look at the Caswell Europe website, as their sealant is ethanol-proof.

Tom, I know all about Pets…
Tom, I know all about Petseal, found out the hard way what Ethanol does to it. However, the tin of Slosh I bought from my Miller's agent last Summer was supposed to be Ethanol proof, even said so on the tin.
Currently I use only E0 petrol, however, we might not have a choice in the months to come and at that point I'll find out if slosh does what it says on the tin!

Dave,
Sealing the tank is not a bad idea if done correctly with an Ethanol proof product. Sealants are made to inhibit corrosion so will protect the inside of your tank and help protect your filter from debris. I used 'Slosh' in my 650 tank last year as it is supposed to be Ethanol proof and it is appliedwithout the need to mix with another agent. However, having removed the Petseal from my Model 50 and ES2 tanks due to Ethanol damage, I have not yet re-sealed these two tanks. With no E0 petrol I may have to in order to prevent corrosion, although I could always try 2 stroke oil!
So, which lead replacement to use? I do use Redex lead replacement (Not fuel system cleaner as they look the same) but I have a supplier. The problem is that there are less and less shops and forecourtsselling this stuff. I understand that Castrol Valvemaster is good too but never used it.
Currently BP ultimate is Ethanol free, except in the South West and Murco Super, where supplied from their own refinery. However, it may be the case that after April;BP may be forced to contaminate their Ultimate with 5% Ethanol, in which case you may wish to consider something like the Miller Oilall in one anti Ethanol agent with lead replacement and octane booster. Expensive stuff and you may need to buy direct or on the Net?
Some of ushave a fuel problem now but you wait till the warning notices go out for E10. BTW, if using petrol containing Ethanol, be very careful not to spill it on your paintwork. As a solvent it is an excellent paint stripper! Good luck.
