Featherbed model 50 distributor woodruff key

Forums

Hello all can anyone tell me the size of the woodruff key (e3681) fitted to the sprocket that drives the distributor . Bike is a late 58 model 50 with points. I have obtained a a key from the club but its to big and been advised by Andover Norton ( thanks for your Help) of the dimensions which tie in with key from the club.

Has anyone got a NOS woodruff key they could measure or a cam lying about that they could measure the size of the keyway ? Many thanks Roy

Roy,
It is possible to file the key down to the correct size.
You really need a vice and a fine file.  ( Like a second cut or the like) And some patience.

The 18D2/1 has a parallel shaft, the drive sprocket is held on with a pin which has a very slight taper.

Ive seen the likes of the triumph 3TA have a pin that retains the drive pinion. My model 50 has a tapered shaft at the end of the distributor and a tapered sprocket held in place with a bolt - no woodruff key.
The key in question is fitted to the sprocket that drives the distributor via the chain. A file may well sort it - thanks Don however if anyone has the dimensions that would help
