ES2 Rear Axle length

Forums

Hi,

I am currently building an ES2 special using parts that Ihave gathered up over a period of 20 years.

My Norton âdummy axleâseems to be too short to suit the fork ends on my twin slimline featherbed frame.

The flat on the axleoccupies very little of the fork and when the nut and washer are installed,7/16â of the nut is unused (thus the nut has very little 'grip')

I am riding a 1957single downtube ES2 for 40 years and itâs rear axle always had the same problem(?); I always thought that it was correct- now I am not so sure.

From internet research I have discovered that there arevarious part numbers for apparently different dummy axles but can find nodetails of the differences.

The parts list for my 1957 single downtube ES2 quotes partnumber E4760 for the dummy axle (proper name - rear brake drum attachment piece).

Do you think that I have rear axles both with incorrectdummy axles and should I replace them with E4760âs, or is there another(longer) dummy with both wider flat section for the swingarm and longer threaded portion for the nut andwasher.ffending parts

I have attached a dimensioned drawing of the offending parts.

Can anyone shed light on this?
