ES2 fuel consumption

Forums

Hello

I recently bought a 1960 feather bed ES2, in good mechanical condition. I have a 21T front sprocket & a mono block carburetor with standard jetting. Is there an air filter available? and at normal touring speeds on unleaded what fuel consumption should I expect?

Any tricks on improving economy???

Terry,

I too have just bought a 1960 ES2, although i suspect mine has an 18T front as an ex sidecar machine.

There seems to be reference to an optional air filter in the parts manual but i have yet to see details of one. Hopefully someone can enlighten us both.

I have posted this same question a number of times and have never received an answer.

The parts list for the slimline'60-'61 Model 50 and ES2 show air cleaner p/n 18684, but for the life of me I cannot figure out how it would have been constructed in relation to the angled offset of the carb. The near side of the carb inlet comes quite close to the oil tank. The only thing that would seem to be able to work would be a wedge shaped unit.

I suspect that the air cleaner was only supplied when the bikes were sold to Egypt and other desert locations. In the UK it never gets dusty because of all the rain, right?

Perhaps they had a pile of WW2 army surplus Vokes filters? The flexi tube might fit.

There is any earlier post where Dominic Gomes mentioned he had made his own adapter - in effect a 90 degree bend inlet so that the filter face is to the side.

Hello Terry,

Are you the Terry Dobney that used I used to bump into at the Arbuthnot and Talmag Trail?
