Having ordered a 520 final drive chain (as per the book) for my 1960 ES2 have discovered when trying to fit it that the existing chain is a 530 and the sprockets match the fitted chain. Yes i should have looked at the chain before ordering, but just interested in whether this is a known upgrade for these bikes?

For a while years ago it was difficult to get 5/8 x 1/4 sprockets and so many riders (including me) used what we could get - 5/8 x 3/8 chain and sprockets. So yes, a fairly common modification. Gordon.
