ES2 Electrics

Forums

Electrics are not my strong point.

Recently purchased ES2 and trying to sought electrics.

Regulator has Red going to earth, Green and Yellow to Magneto  and blue to headlight.

The red going to earth then has a connector going to the positive battery connection could anyone confirm this is correct ? seems odd.

Ps need to sought out the connectors

Yes it is correct. These bikes are positive ground, which means just what it says. It is important to remember that the when working on the bike.

Based on your pics, Graham, the control box is usually wired , from the left, F-A-D-E so your  green lead goes to F on the dynamo, the brown to headlamp (Ammeter), the yellow to D on the dynamo and the red, as you say, to Earth. As Gregory has noted, the ES2 is positive earth.

... the green and yellow go to the dynamo not the magneto. An easy way to remember is that green is field (green fields of home....)

Some of the Norton singles had a Negative Earth as part of their electrical system well into the 1950s. Many also used AF size nuts just to help add to the confusion when trying to do a rebuild.

.. were AF nuts used Philip? Can't find any on my 1952 ES2 (which is BTW negative earth).
