Hi the frame no on my norton navigator matches the log book it also states the engine no is the same .I have found the no N 2261 stamped on the gearbox casing ,what does this no relate to

I believe that this was what was known as the 'shop number'. N means Navigator and the number 2261 means it wasnumber 2261 Navigator engine built. A J before the number would mean Jubilee.

I don't think it's desperately important.

Do you know where the engine no is stamped

Hello Steve

The engine number is stamped on the left hand crankcase immediately below the cylinder barrel joint. It should be pretty obvious as the numbers are fairly big.
