Electra tank badges

Forums

Down to details on my Electra and am having a bit of trouble with the tank badges. Powdercoating was a big failure, and chroming is out of the question. The chrome paint we've tried is looking acceptable but painting the background of the word "Norton" isn't easy. Any suggestions?

I recently bought a badge with orginal paint on it. Looks like ony the front of the Norton script was masked and not the sides.

Use a small brush and paint around the script. Wipe of excess paint with a cotton swap.

Do you need to paint the background on an Electra badge ? The background paint on Jubilee and Navigators should be the bike colour, i.e red on an early Jubilee, black or blue on the Navigator etc. As the Electra is silver maybe they never had any painted background?

I had a look at the badges on my De Luxe Navigator which are black and have original paint. It looks very difficult to paint by brush unless you are a very skilled artist. I think I would try spraying with an aerosol. Obviously the area would need some preparation before spraying to remove any dirt etc. and then tape off the outer edges. My choice would be to wash the Norton bit with a small brush and some cellulose thinners. Then spray with an aerosol and wipe the surface with a clean cloth again dipped in thinners to remove the unwanted overspray .
