Electra sidestand.

I think the side stand was only standard on the Electra. Original side stands were an optional extra on the Jubilee and Navigator but are very rarely seen so hopefully someone might reply with some practical suggestions.

After 6 months of hoping (either for a stand to come up for sale or a 'practical solution') I eventually gave up and forked out 129 quid plus the cost of a longer stud, plus postage, to the NOCShop. My lower back will, I'm sure, thank me, even if my wallet won't.

I have a non-original side stand on the Standard Navigator fitted to the bottom bolt of the front down tube as original but I have forgotten what it came from - almost certainly from some Japanese machine. I bought it at some auto jumble but I then fabricated my own mounting bracket to make it fit the Navigator - so it's simple enough to do with a bit of chopping and welding.

Ian's best bet in my opinion is to recondition the original rusty stand but Electra spares might be easier to come by in the USA.

I saw what was sledged to be an Electra sidestand on eBay a while ago, it had a bend in it, as does this one?

Hi Ian,

I would advise you to have a look on NOCShop, at side stand assembly 22611 for lightweights. This is the stand as designed by Norton for the lightweights and faithfully copied by the spares scheme.

As you can see from this image, (click on the picture of stand foot to see full assembly) and the excellent Navigator image forwarded by Dan, the stand is straight and fairly slender. It is also fairly vertical when deployed and takes more thrust load than bending moment.

I spent a long time getting a Harley Davidson sidestand onto my Electra. Getting the stand to do its supporting role is quite easy, but getting the stand to fold away where it is not in the way of the centrestand and easily reached by toe is a b*****r. Be prepared for a few failures and some judicious bending and twisting in an acytelene flame.

Why Harley Davidson? Eye candy.

The NOC carry 3rd party insurance for spares provided from the scheme and that should be a small comfort knowing that damage to your fresh restoration from a faulty side stand will be covered. As for your home-made? .....

I managed to purchase the original side stand for my Jubilee a couple of years ago, hoping to fit it soon.

The problem is it came without the connection between the frame and stand. I do have some decent pics of it, dont think it would be difficult to make. I dont have a lathe but I do have a drill stand and a heavy duty file. Whats the best material to use, dont want it to snap off.

i was in the same position a while ago with my es2 if you found a stand for sale they wanted the earth for it so i got round to making a bracket out of 5mm steel bent the angle on my press to suit then i found a Kawasaki stand would do the job altered the position of the kick down lever on it, fitted a spring mount to the bracket. the stand will hold the bike no problem. i think when i take it off again i will put a strengthening piece at the front of the bracket just as an overkill now i know its ok .

I purchased a new one from the club together with the long s/s stud but the angle when down is such that it is so low the bike just falls over it needs to be about 2 inches longer has anyone else had this issue if so how did you overcome it

I also bought the pattern side stand from the club for my Navigator, along with the longer stud. Mine works just fine. The angle is a bit shallow but certainly no different from what I've seen on some other bikes.
