Electra rockers

Forums

I am just finishing the restoration of my electra and found that Two of the rocker spindle retainer pins part 24187 are faulty and will not hold the rocker in place

I have tried NOC spares but the part is not listed

does anyone have two spindle retainer pins part 24187 they are willing to sell or can tell me where any can be purchased I have tried the norton dealers on ebay and norvill but no luck

any help would be appreciated as this is the only thing stopping the completion of tghe engine rebuild

thanks

Hello,

Jubilee/Navigator parts lists for 1959 and 1961/62 gives the part number as 20849 but NOCShop don't list that either. I think there was some modification between the original 'Spindle clamping pin' and the later one was presumably fitted from Electras on but the earlier Jubilee/Navigator pin might fit.

Sorry i don't have a spare one but somebody might have an old Jubilee head in their shed to try. Shouldn't be too difficult to make a pin if all else fails.

Trevor,

The move to larger diameter rocker spindle retainer pins was adopted by both later Jubilee and Navigator. Electra always had the larger retaining pins. Same part fits all later lightweights. That gives you a greater chance of finding a later head assembly for any lightweight on ebay. You only need one head assembly to make up your pin shortage. A quick look at the retaining nut size soon gives an indication. It is significantly bigger on the later pins as you will already know.

Hope this helps if you haven't found pins already. Peter

I have found that the spindle retainers are 1/4 cycle thread even though reference has been made to 1/8 or 3/16. I have found some one who will machine some for me as I have not been able to locate any NoS or secondhand ones

thanks for all the commerts

Seems that most of the threads on the lightweights are cycle threads.

Not sure what the footrest retaining nut is tho!
