Electra chaincase fixing screw head size

Forums

Can someone please tell me the Allen key size I need to remove the

outer chaincase cover on a 1964 Electra, appears to be slightly too small for 3/16. And where I can get a gasket for it.

Cheers, Stew.

On my 1965 electra they are screws so you use a screw driver the same on my spare engine I would try metric it might work regards gasket if N O C spares have none they are easy to make from agasket sheet. Bryon

They should be cheese head screws and 3 different lengths. I think the Whitworth size they are is very close to a metric hence people change them. I have found that if you continue to use Allen screws you will tend to over tighten and loose the thread. I also found when working on a customers bike some years ago that the threads were chocked up with red Hermatite so had to clear that out with a the right tap. I then refitted the cheese head screws so that we got the right lengths and we did not over tighten them. Gasket-I have found that highlomar or silicon with care is good enough for said chain-case.

Thanks Bryon and Alan for your help. Managed to file down a 5mm Allen key and they came out fairly easily.
