I have a 62 dominator deluxe and would like to know how the rear bathtub is fitted,is there a full mudguard under the bathtub or just the short front section, how many stays are fitted if any?

Hi David . There are mudguards under . but its been 25years since I last looked . there is a rear stay made from the same section as front  guard stays that has a folded clip that bolts to the rear light area,  there are spacers and bolts at the front . The 62 seat should be fixed with a Dzus at the rear. . Where are you based?  .I get around on the 99DL . The guards are a simple section to produce ,the stay also ,I have photos-------somewhere-------!

Thanks Robert,I've got a long hoop stay which I guess will attach to the frame behind the upper shocker mounting,I would expect it to attach above the tailight with a p bracket,I have 2 L shaped tubular stays approx 8 inches long with the mounting holes at 90°and I can't find a place to attach them,I have the 4 long stays for the front mudguard.

The two L shaped stays are a puzzle, Could be a lifting handle for left side by the seat , but only one of them.  Front stays need domed washers at guard end . Dont be surprised if horizontal style fold on side panels does not fully line up with tub line. They are all like that ,  Tyre clearance is tiny.  3.50 rear  and 300 front  . My bike has a different seat and mounts to yours.

The attachment is from the 1960 Norton sales brochure and shows a Slimline Frame with lugs as used by deluxe  'bathtub' chunks.

There is only a front section guard under the tub. (half a guard. )    The rest of the Tub is open to the weather and needs protecting with underseal or waxoil.  There should also be a spray baffle ,but thats a flimsy thing ,never seen a survivor! ,I have made a rear mudflap and a swing arm flap to deflect spray. My open seat mounts (diferent to yours) also let spray go up to the seat base ,I shall make some rubber flaps for this. I also have a pipe  foam seal behind the tool tray to protect the tool kit. I have a suplimentary parts list that covers the tub/guard bolts, spacers etc but not much use to you.

Thanks Robert you've saved me a lot of time searching for information,I've just finished spending many hrs removing around 3mm thickness of rock hard black bitumen from the tub and side panels as I hate the stuff, the underside is rust free so I'll be looking to keep it that way after repainting it so I'll have to work something  out to protect it.

Several coats of Hammerite  and a waxoil.   I have found things going very rusty under the tub ,and its likely that I will be removing the guard for a repaint   sometime soon  ,at that time I can take photo's and measurements for all those in need.   Can't be that many!.
