Clutch cable

Forums

I'm pretty sure I have the wrong clutch cable as there isn't enough free cable to attach to the actuating arm, however even if there was I'm not sure how to attach it to the arm, is it just an interference fit, there doesn't seem to be much of a slot. am I missing anything?

Sorry Dan,

I'm no help at all as my machines are all the early type clutch which is simply different. The early cable is also different to the later cable - I think Club spares keeps both cables but I can't vouch for their fit as I haven't used their services.

Any of the people with Electras or later Jubilee/Navigators should be able to answer.

Patrick Just put a new clutch cable on the Electra from NOC spares works perfect after putting up with one with some strands broken which could not be seen when on the bike but was only about 30 years old. Now I have a good smooth clutch , I think the Jubilee ones could be different Bryon

Hi Dan,

Looking at Ian Easton's pictures of his Electra rebuild his actuating arm looks definitely different to yours. Maybe there's more than one version of the later gearbox - I was under the impression that the later Jubilee/Navigator/Electra were all the same. The earlier gearbox is the Francis Barnett type and is very different even though it looks superficially similar from the outside.

All Electra, and Jubilee/Navigator after engine number 106838 had a clutch actuator under the gearbox cover that consisted of two plates with 3 ball bearings trapped between them, the whole assemly being held in place place by a large circlip.

Can you send me a photo of your setup at: lighttwins@nortonownersclub.org & I can discuss further

Cheers
