The Smiths chrono speedo on my 1950 ES2 has a nice patina, but the trip and odometer have stopped working. The speedo itself is fine. Is it possible or advisable for me to get inside and fix this? I don't really want a full restoration or exchange unit. What d'you reckon?

Repairing chronometrics is not difficult, and theres plenty of info on the net.Listed under Jaeger[who licenced Smiths to make them].You will need some clockmaker type tools, small screwdrivers ,probes, punches etc.In the old days if the bezel was tight, youd cut a couple of slots in,but now its best to remove with a large worm drive hose clamp.Of course then if something broke, another speedo cost 5/-.
