Be aware that there are 2 different chrome tank panels used in 1957, one for the featherbed dominators, and a different shape for the non-featherbed dominators .

Also be sure you have the rubber trim strip around the perimeter fitted. Also, install all 4 screws loosely untill all are alligned in the mounting hols, then they can be tightned, inner most screws first, then outermost.

Hello Eugene and Paul

Yes you are correct about the 2 panels after looking in Roy Bacons book I think I have may havesolved my problem.

In 1957 the model 88 and 99 had a small tank 3.5 gals. which had a big badge and theknee pads were round at the front andthe panel was smaller.

The tank was change for 1958 to 3.65 gals andthe badge was smaller this was the tank that was used up to 1959 then ti was changed to the slim line, this is why the panelsI havewould bea good fit on my 1960 slim line dommi 99,if the holes were correct.

And yes Paul I will give Fred a ring

Not sure what you mean about different sized tank badges as they were the same sizefrom 1955to 1959. The large, chromed panels were in 2 types - one for the featherbeds and one for non-featherbeds. Fred's will take the new, larger diameter 'modern' badges which will fit into the round recesses. (Thank me for getting him to modify his original panels!) These round badgesare all reproductions, mademany yearsafter the wideline frames/tanks finished. The originals were about 3/16" smaller diameter. (I will check this next time I'm in the shed) The slimline doesn't have chromed tank 'panels' as such. They are long, chromed Mazak ( or "Zamak" if you prefer) badges. They can be seen in any Norton photos of the period.

Cheers, Lionel

Just an observation - my 1955 '88' and 1959 '99' both used the same sized, round tank badges. All were original back in 1963 & 1965 when I bought them.

Not sure if you got sorted but I have an original set of panels which are round at the front that maybe for the 57 dominator. They have been on my 58 bike but I recently got some squared off panels. They will need rechoming but I am open to reasonable offers
