Bogus Navigator seller

Forums

A word of warning all Navigator fans, I posted an 'Late Navigator wanted' advert on our Wanted classified section back in October. Yesterday I received an email via the advert from a person claiming to have one for sale and asking $2,200 with $300 shipping cost, intimating he lived in the USA. He sent a picture of an immaculate Navigator which felt was worth far more which made me suspicous. When asked to provide more details such as engine and frame numbers etc he sent several more pictures of the same bike which looked vaguely familiar. Despite several requests he provided no more detail but recounted a story about it being his late father's bike imported from the UK but never registered and he needed the money to fund his mothers medical care. Suspecting a fraud attempt I did a search on the internet and came up with exactly the same photos of a Navigator on the Bonham's web site which was sold at auction back in 2014. When I confronted him he claimed this was the bike his father had bought. I asked him to verify his ownership with new photos showing the engine and frame numbers etc or I would take appropriate action and he went silent. Suspecting the worst I have blocked his email and reported it as a suspected fraud. Very frustrating because it is a lovely example - ! I hope promulgating this will keep others safe. Regards Nick

Far too many fraudsters about, but I wonder what would have happened if he had sent pics of the numbers?

I fell out with eBay the other day I was trying to view some bunk beds for sale ( for the grand kids) and tried to give the seller my phone number so we could arrange a viewing. The email was blocked and my account suspended temporarily. Apparently they want no contact between sellers and bidders prior to the auction closing. To be fair their refund policy is good, but I wouldnât pay a few grand for a bike or a car without looking first.

I won the bunk beds ( thanks to gixen! ) and they were fine ... fortunately!

Dan if you put your phone number like this 077-649-***-** obviously using real numbers the "Your being Naughty Ebay Bot" doesn't pick up on being a phone number, as it is fooled and doesn't identify the script!

i know this as I tried it and it worked and I managed to get my number to a guy to text me information1

Oh! Have you noticed how the Indian petrol tanks on Ebay, are generally the same photos for all the vendors!

Cheers

I did wonder if that was the case!

I emailed an Indian seller who had ES2 mudguards listed but didnât specify if they were for featherbed or pre featherbed bikes ..... no reply whatâs so ever.

on the other hand Mike Pemberton bought some stuff from an Indian seller - pummy, and he says they were perfect, so you never know!

I bought a shed load of lightweight bits yesterday on eBay, off to pick them up this evening, paid a bit more than I wanted but finding a set of styling panels and a kickstart was hopefully worth it!
