I came across a big 4 engine casing today with the number: 1. S5. 2134 I have attached a pic. Is this a war dept number?

It appears to be a triumph 5/1
It seems that the casings are for a triumph 5/1 from about 1934. Apologies for introducing foreigners into the noc.

Hello Dominic,
The engine number you have photographed doesn't look normalfor a WD Big 4. I have attached photos of the engine number on my WD Big 4's.
Normally the 4 digit engine number is preceded by a capital S.
