Air screw setting

Forums

Hi All, Quick question. Do I set my air screw and hence idle speed with ignition fully retarded or at the midway point which is recommended for starting ? Amal 76. Can't seem to find a definitive answer.

Though I would add that this is what I seem to find written quite often.

"With the throttle in position 1, (closed). With the engine running too fast with the twist grip shut off and the throttle shut down on the throttle adjusting screw, and ignition set for best slow running "

So, is the best for ignition setting for slow running retarded where I can get it to idle real slow or when it is more advanced where it wants to idle quicker which to me means it's running better ?

The bike will tick over better when retarded. If it was a bike with auto advance/retard it wouldn't be revving fast enough to advance the ignition.
