Craig- Hi- I'm in New Jersey and am restoring my 1950 ES 2- I don't know if yours has the same oil tank arrangement as mine- If you like you can give me a call or I can call you as I have free long distance phone in USA- I can probably help over the phone easier than typing! - I'm at 609-494-3048 or e-mail-toolboxlbi53@comcast.net- meanwhile I'll try to find pictures of the 48 oiltank -Richard Tool

Hi Craig,

I'm in Granada Hills up near where the 405 exits the San Fernando valley and I have a 1958 19s, the oil lines should exit and enter the engine the same way as your '48 easy two. I'm at 818-368-2850 (voice mail)

Regards,

Albert

Craig- Looking at photo reference it appears as though your tank is slightly different than mine- I'll try to do my best though & bear with me if I am telling you something you already know-assuming the internal arrangement of your tank is the same as mine try this- first- the oil pump in the timing chest should have a feed path and a scavenge (return) path-on my engine the feed path takes the oil from the tank to the pump which circulates the oil via a jet in the timing cover through a hole in the center of the crank main shaft and up through an angled hole in the flywheel/crank web and then sprays on the rod big end & crankpin ,etc. Your crankcase may differ from mine but I believe the principles are the same. My crankcase has two ports just behind the timing cover which share a junction block with pipes for both the feed path and scavenge (return) path. Yours may have two ports with separate connections and no junction block. If you need to determine which port is which, try this- expose both ports & rotate engine in proper direction while feeding oil in some way into the port you believe to be feed path -if all is well the oil will eventually come out the other port. If the oil backs out the port you are feeding try the other way- I'm sure you get the idea. On my engine some return oil is bled off via a banjo fitting between the return pipe and oil tank to lubricate the top end. From there it runs down the pushrod tubes and collects in the crankcase sump where it is pumped back (scavenged) to the oil tank.Having determined which is which , on to the tank itself. My tank has a filler ( obviously !) and 4 holes at the bottom. One small hole is simply a drain with a plug. The second and largest is the supply (feed) and connects to the supply(feed) port on the crank case. The third (smaller) hole is adjacent and this connects to the the return port. This hole has an internal pipe which routes from the hole and leads to the filler neck where the returning oil exits the pipe and falls into the tank. The fourth hole is an overflow which has an internal pipe which is straight and leads to the maximum oil level in the top of the tank- any overflow runs down this pipe and exits the tank through a small pipe to the chain or the ground or wherever . To determine which pipe/hole leads where blow air through one or the other till you sort them out. Hope this helps and again feel free to call- Happy Thanksgiving -Richard
