What model Lucas magneto came on this bike? The bike stopped running and i found that the ignition system was not working. When i took the cover off the mag i found a small plastic piece in the bottom of the points case. Looking at the manual it showed it to be a "tappet" that moves the points. Are these still available? Or is it time to go electronic?
Going electronic?

It would be interesting to know what type of material the tappet exactly is (bakelite?). It shouldn't be too hard shaping one with a file.

I made one for my es2 out of a hard black nylon material (conveyer track material) about 20 years ago and it's probably done about 30,000 miles since without showing any signs of wear.

Tappet building
Thanks for all your input. I take it that tappets are unobtainable and must be manufactured. I would think this would be an easy job for a 3D printer. I have the pieces so there's a start.

Going electronic?? Again the question, but it must be thought through. Just fitting a Boyer Bransden or Pazon ignition without thought for the battery/power supply could lead to a lot of problems.
All electronic ignition is basically coil ignition. You will then have to fit an ignition switch, your battery charging if from the dynamo will be compromised. !2V is easy to get to but the dynamo/engine has to rev higher, battery capacity has to be adequate, You cannot fit a small battery as you 'do not use the lights', this is not the way to go either, a long journey will cook a small battery. Go electronic yes but be very careful and understand ALL the angles. I didn't mention the £400? Rebuilt Mag £400? self generating mag £400
