Chaps, took the Inter to Brooklands today and had a chat about my difficulties with the centre stand. It was felt the stand might be too long - the rear wheel was a good three inches off the ground and I really have to have assistance to get it on the stand, unlike any other bike I've owned. It appears to measure 210mm from the centre bolt to the contact surface . If anyone has a plunger inter and could check their stand I'd be very grateful indeed. I reckon I could lose 15-20mm in length and still be ok.
Cheers

Paul,
Just measured the stand on my 51 Es2, 120mm, I think Andy must have an optomistic ruler if his is 210!. My bike has a 21" front wheel and the rear wheel just clears the ground when on the stand. I can use the stand without any problem even with a dodgy back and right shoulder, just push down on the stand with the left foot and heave up on the rear mudguard or stay and its done.
Until recently I had 49 Inter which had the same stand and wheel sizes and this was prehaps a little more difficult to put on the stand but I guess it weighed a bit more than the easy2.
I hope you decide to perservere with the TT carb, my Inter always started and ran well with its TT, even my Es2 has an 13/16 TT and starts first or second kick hot or cold. It is true that a tickover is hard to achive but I have all my bikes set so that the engine stops when the thottle is closed, I prefer it this way and it`s easy to get used to. I hope you had a good time at Brooklands. I hope to be going to the Norton day next weekend and might see you there if you get a pass out.

Hi. Been and checked again…
Hi.
Been and checked again, deffinately 205mm, given that Paul has 210 and John 8inches (203mm), I think thats the right sort of figure.
I see the spares shop sells them in 180mm and 200mm heights so there must be a variety.
Best bet is probably to modify yours to suite your particular bike.

Hi Jonathan 20" rear wheel…
Hi Jonathan
20" rear wheel. Today, in fact, I got a chap with a unrestored clubmans inter to drag it out of the shed and I had a measure up. Length of stand from eye centre to floor plate is.....189mm
mine is nearly an inch too long, then!
cheers

Hi Paul
There has been some discussion here about stands. I'm hoping Stuart will come back with a picture to show how he sorted his. As I said in the other posting my ES2 isn't too bad untill I load it with luggage, I can't stand in the same place as I like to without the luggage, plus its a lot heavier.
My ES2 is plunger frame and 1951 so although a different engine is simmilar rolling chasis... My stand measures about 205mm from center to contact surface and the back wheel is about 1 inch off the ground on a flat surface. You could afford to have the back wheel lower but dont go too far or parking on uneven or soft ground can become a problem.
When I bought mine it had been sat in a shed/barn for years and the feet had comletely rusted off of the stand until both wheels where sat on the ground and it rocked from side to side. I welded some new feet on the stand so mine isn't exactly as origonal, but looks about right and the back wheel is about the same height as others look to be when on the stand (I haven't been measuring but it looks about right when parked next to others)
Hope you are having fun with the Inter
Andy
