Hi folks,
Many thanks to Skip, Stateside for the G/box / rear mudguard bracket and Ian, Down under for the rear engine plates. With the 650 rattling and knocking away no worse for wear, I'm on with this project at last. No choice really when no takers after I offered most of the bits on the forum.
With the pre / f bed frame bottom rails being narrower, it will not fit on the building stand for featherbeds and so I thought I could build it on the centre stand. I bought the stand from Club Spares but there must be spacers I don't know about + a spring. Anyone got part numbers and a diagram? (All so much easier with a featherbed)
Shortly I will be starting…

OK Alan, I bought a stand…
OK Alan,
I bought a stand from club spares for this machine, it seems a little wide to me but so far nobody has come up with the spacer arrangement. I would have photographed it earlier but it was all buried under other stuff until I was ready. I'll get the camera out tomorrow. I'll measure it too.
Please have a look at the swinging arm, I have measured it at the fork as the same width as a featherbed swinging arm, so I might get away with this if I take 1/16 off each side at the pivot end? (Photo's on other thread) So I can get the rear G/box - mudguard bracket to fit.
The stem on the bottom yoke is at an angle, I don't understand that. Is yours at an angle?
A rear mudguard required too. Any ideas?

Thanks for the pictures, Alan.
That's the bike alright.
Did you ever find out about the angle of the bottom yoke stem?
This is the club stand. It measures 8 1/4 inches outside Dia at the pivot end but will need a mod to hit the check / stop plate.

Yes my freind narrowed the cross brace and removed metal where the stand meetsthe stop plate. the yokes on mine appear parallel to the steering head.

I examined my long roadholders carefully and the stem is at an angle to the fork legs giving extra trail. I didn't measure the angle but it looked like 4 - 5 degrees.

Thanks Jonathan,
I'm relieved I am not alone with this fork angle. I should be able to measure it once the forks are on the headstock, complete with new greased up balls.
The question remains though as to why some were at an angle, given that we have already been told that there was no sidecar option for long road holders?
My bottom yoke has been welded at some point but I'm sure it will be fine.

I agree with the fork angle, as my M77 has the same. Although I disagree with"there was no sidecar option for long road holders".When I originally was finding parts for this bike, I ended up with a long roadholder yoke stamped "SIDECAR", which I sold in order to finance the rest of the project. The M77, which has the pre-featherbedframe & Long roadholders , was produced primarily for sidecar customers, as they thought that the Featherbbed frame couldnt cope with sidecar loads. That was proven wrong in short order, and the M77 was dropped.
there are several M77 owners in this club with sidecars that may be able to confirm the existance of the long roadholde sidecar yokes.

Thanks for this Skip, I look forward to finding out about this different fork angle, how to define the sidecar variety and if they are all safe to use as a solo?
I never heard of people changing their yokes when detaching the chair for the Summer?

No news is good news. Look…
No news is good news. Looks like I'll be putting these angled forks on when my new balls arrive. Still looking for an old beer crate to build it on. Maybe that's something NOC spares have in stock?

Shortly I will be starting to restore a 57 ES2 that was missing its centre stand, I have searched fore several years with no luck so finallyI managed to get a locally produced stand for a swingarm model 7, a freind was able to modify this to fit, the 7 stand was 190mm wide but he cut it and narrowed iti think approx 155mm, then it was just amatter of removing a bit of metal to alow the stand to lock open [stand engaged]I have yet to source a spring but hoped a 7 spring mayfit.
