Forums

I have a norton 50 1957 can you supply me with the correct wiring diagram it has a mag /dyno model, also the correct centre stand and part number if possible. It has a single downtube frame and divides into two under the engine. I also need to purchase a dyno with drive gear can you help with this.

The attached diagrams are from the Norton, Garratt and Franks maintenance manuals. The Franks book appears to cover 1932 up to 1956. The Garratt covers 1956, 57 and 58 Models. The Norton page is post 1958 Alternator bikes.

thank you for the information on the wiring.

A picture would be nice Peter, of your 57 model 50.

Thanks for trying Peter, certain someone can guide you through it.

As it happens, I saw a 57/58 model 50 in immaculate condition at Rufforth autojumblethis morning. This one had a modern / new magdyno on it.

I took some photo's of it on my mobile telephone but will need to see my son to bluetooth them off.

Neil here is my 1958 registeredModel 50 which of course as you can see is a 1959 model. You can also see this bike on the NOC website in the "Models" section.

Very nice Michael, I see it's a wideline.

No point in asking you for a set of 57/58 Pre F-bed engine plates then.

My other model 50 is a slimline built up from bits inc a 1960 99 frame.

Now I'm restoring (With a bit of help) an original 1960 99 in Dove Grey and Black.

Neil,

I was looking through my box of engine plates for the front plates for my '48 Inter. I think I have what you are serching for: i.e. single cylinder, rear plates used with magdyno and AMC gearbox. Drop me an email on richtsteig1@optusnet.com.au and we can discuss options.

Excellent picture Peter, what I aspire to, thank you.

Ian (post above) was extremely helpful and I now have the engine plates with a set for the spares scheme.

The other good news is that new seats are available from R K Leighton and we can have new new headlamp shells made if someone will lend one to the club to copy.

The bad news is that there are no rear mudguards to be found, chainguard only in Canada to date, no rear shocks and no springs for the side stand and centre stand!

Any ideas?

Where do 57/58 pre f/bed singles owners get their rear shocks and stand springs from? These are serviceable parts and need replacing once in a while, unlike the chain guard, headlampshell and rear mudguard.

Any ideas?

Staying on topic: I plan to make mine 12 V and add a Boyer power box.

I replaced my rear shocks on my 57 pre featherbed 19S with hagon shocks. On the advice of a certain Mr Pemberton I also fitted commando stantions and dampers at the front. It handles very well indeed.smiley

Very many thanks John, I was wondering if Hagon's gave you the correct length but what ever the length, if yours handles well then that will do for me. I'm using the original forks with an angle of about 5 degrees on the stem.
