Brake lever mount - 1956 ES2

Forums

I need to replace the axle that the rear brake lever pivots on. Can they be replaced, I can't see a nut on the back of the frame. Is it screwed in?

I have a spares book for 1955 and it shows a "rear brake pedal pivot bolt" part no D12/502 which screws direct into the frame. It appears t have a "fixed nut" at the frame end for tightening/ undoing.Hope this helps.George

Thanks George - it is the same in my manual but nothing like the one on the bike. Will add a photo.

Brake pedal pivot bolts are listed in the singles spares list on this site. Pre 1956 SS01 D1_D12/502, Post 1956 SS01 D1_19996. Stuart's does not look like either of these so may have been made by a previous owner.

Thanks Ian you've sorted it for me! One of the sellers appalling bodges I'm afraid - seeing the pre '56 SS pivot I again took the still sons to the shaft and out it came. Looks like he has converted the three to metric so may have to order up a helicoil - any idea what the thread is?

Thanks again.

Stuart,

My 1955 ES2 has a 1/2" x 20TPI cycle thread for the brake lever spindle to screw into the frame. It looks like the photo sent in by Barry yesterday.

I find these spindles wear and cause a floppy brake lever. If you can get a new one made then you can match the existing thread in the frame and it can be made to suit your brake lever for a nice snug fit.

Regards
