In preparing my Deluxe side panels for spraying I noticed that the bottom of the left panel flares out, but not the right panel. At first I thought the panel was bent, looking at some pictures on the net it looks like this could be intentional to clear the brake, would that be correct.

Hi John.
My panels are both curved the same. It would have made sense for Norton to produce totally opposite panels apart from the tickler hole. Keep the cost down where the pressings were concerned. I've attached a picture taken from a 1960 brochure that shows where the rear brake mech was in relation to the panel. The rod goes behind the rear foot rest, so the lever is well out of the way.
If anyone knows different I hope they speak up.
