Lightweight gear lever
Thanks to some very useful help from members who seem to be unable to post on this forum. Info on Lightweight Forum.
The Commando part 06.1499 is a chromed gear lever with the correct spline and length. The lever throws the pedal out 1 1/2 ins to clear the Commando timing cover. It can be bought and used on Lightweights. Be careful not to buy pattern levers that are angled incorrectly and are too flat near the spline or they will rub the gearbox housing near the spindle.
I can recommend RGM Norton Ltd part number 061499.
If you want an exact copy of lightweight lever 21149, buy the un-chromed lever 061499RB from RGM and shape it to reduce the throw from 1 1/2 ins. to 1 ins. Then get it chromed.

I'm pretty confident that the spline form on the AMC gearchange shaft, the lightweight gearchange shaft, and the lightweight kickstart shaft are all identical.
Pictures of gear change levers from other Nortons look very similar to the lever on a lightweight. These are all readily available.
The lightweight lever is 5 ins from spindle centre to pedal centre.
The lever is cranked out 1 ins. Measured by pressing the flat inner surface of the spline housing on a flat surface and measuring the height (clearance) under the lever near the pedal.
Are any owners of Dominator, Commando, or Single with AMC gearbox able to suggest something perhaps very similar in shape? Maybe a non-standard Norvil or RGM lever?
Slightly longer or shorter perhaps. I notice the club has gear levers for AMC gearbox 5 ins long, but the lever does not crank fast enough. The lightweight lever cranks out quite fast. Like this one
