Hi, I'm restoring a 1938 Model 50 and need some advice on sourcing parts. Most urgent is a full engine gasket set and a set of push rod covers. Can anyone point me in the right direction please? Many thanks
David

Thank you Colin for your help. It's appreciated. i'M guessing the oil pump gasket is generic to the era as the pump seems to be.

No mention of a pump gasket is made in the parts book or the E M Franks book for this model. I can't see any harm in fittng one as there is room but I would make it. One A4 sheet will make all the gaskets you need.

Hi David
I have a 1938 ES2. Gasket sets are probably not available. If they are "new old stock" they have probably shrunk and/or gone so brittle as to be useless.
Your engine only needs a cylinder base gasket, a couple of rocker box sandwich plate gaskets and a few fibre washers. The gaskets can be made from gasket paper from any motor parts factor or if you must, Halfords. No head gasket was fitted, the joints are lapped together and a thin joint of gasket cement (not RTV) applied.
Engine and gearbox parts, if they are the same as 16H can often be sourced from Russell Motors in London. The club sometimes has parts that they have had made or used parts.
The push rod tube rubber seal is stocked by the club but finding new tubes may prove difficult. I made mine. They are only 7/8" steel tube with a flanged end where it is clamped by the tube nut and a fibre washer. I found some tube, cutthem slightly over length and turned up two collars the diameter of the flange, 7/8" bore and same width of the extra length in tube. I silver soldered the collars onto the end of the tubes. (you could braze them but you get a nice flow with silver solder. Don't use soft solder!). I put them in the lathe and machined the collar and end of the tube to a measurement slightly thicker than the flange on the original tube just for strength.
I had them chromed and you can't see the difference!
I am fortunate to have the kit, but hopefully you can see that there are ways!
