1939 Norton 16h girder fork bearings

Forums

Hi. I am Completely overhauling a 16h. And I am having trouble with purchasing the top and bottom cup & cone bearings for the head stock. I’ve seen some on an ebay site, but they say that they come from India. When I zoom into the picture, they look very poorly machined and I am not convinced. Also some one said that I can get stainless steel cup and cone bearing online. But I am questioning that as it doesn’t sound right. These bearings should be harden ground steel. As all bearing are. I’ll be grateful for any advice. Thank you.

Bob:

When the new bearings arrive can you give us the bearing identification numbers?

Thanks

Mike,

They are loose 5/16" ball bearings in the races with the spare parts number detailed in Ian's response. 17 balls required for the upper races and the same for the lower race.

I can confirm that there are no identifying markings on the new races.
