Hi again, What is the correct carb for the 1938 M50 please. The carb number has worn away on the one I have and I need to get a few bits for it.
Many thanks in advance
Dave

The first rule of restoration, in my experience is 'assume nothing'...certainly not that an eighty-year old vehicle has the original carb on it !
It would originally have had a 1" Type 76 - the type with the pilot air inlets around the mixing chamber body. These are not available new.
The side-valve 500s also used 1" bodies and there are plenty of NOS WD16H parts around. These will be of the later 276 type. Slides and jets are interchangeable but wear to the mixing chamber or jet block will require rectification rather than replacement.
Martyn Bratby is very good for this sort of thing and can make it better than new with a sleeved slide. It isn't a particularly fast turnaround though

You need to track up to the 1933-34 section.
