Speedo + rev counter bracket for prewar Inter

Forums

Can anyone please post some pics of the speedo/rev counter brackets for a girder fork Inter?  Mine has a rev counter only, but I'm not happy with it.  There are huge numbers of side-on pictures of all types of Nortons, in books, on the web, and my own - but hardly any looking down on them.

Thank you Jonathan and Nicholas.  All is now clear.

Just back from Russell Motors - he has the correct bolts in stock.  Except that the thread is different from the thread on the grease nipple I took in as a pattern!  It's possible that the grease nipple (with its quite short thread) was forced in by PO, but I don't know. More to think about, I suppose.

Hi David,

I know this was an old request but I had cause to get the prewar Inter to racing specs out today as I was giving a talk and presentation on racing Nortons at the local library.

Here's how I mounted a speedo and tacho to my machine.  The purists won't approve but as both brackets were already painted I decided not to cut and weld them together. (In case I decide to use one of the brackets on another machine at a later stage)

I centre-drilled the correct length bolt and threaded the head to take the grease nipple.

Thanks Ian - that makes a lot of sense.  The bracket I have at present has the advantage of not being on the front (unsprung) portion of the forks, but it interferes with the steering damper bracket and reduces left steering lock. Looking forward to putting a few more more miles on it in the spring and see if I can live with what I have!

Hi all,

From a correct mechanical point of view, using a front wheel drive speedo and a rev counter will cause one of the cables to be constantly flexing with the fork movement with a combined bracket. If you have this set-up the speedo should be fixed to the fork blades in the usual way, while the rev counter should be fixed to the top yoke. If you have a rear wheel speedo drive, you can use a combined bracket fixed to the top yoke.

Hi Richard,

Probably "half down market" is the correct description!!!  The right hand side is one of my late 1920's Webb fork speedo holders.
