Frame repairs

Forums

Looking for somewhere to do a frame repair job in the Northwest. It's a brazed lug type frame.

Will require old (suspect) repair stripping, and possibly a new front down-tube fitting.

Realise there are not a lot of folk doing this type of work anymore. All aluminium and carbon fibre now.....

Anyone got a recommendation ?frame repair

Dave Plumb (M.E.S.S.) on The Wirral has a good name for sorting out difficult problems in the WD motorcycle world. If he can't do it then I'm sure that he'll know who can. He's the sort of enthusiast who would say.

Son's 88 has severe corrosion in the frame. Does anyone make featherbed frames or can anyone repair one?

there are several reputable replica makers, mainly of the lighter Manx spec, such as Richard Adams, contact Works Racing if can’t find him otherwise. Don’t know if he does repairs for sure.

Will contact Works Racing, still looking for any others who can help.

A fairly old person told me about the process of the old tubular joints of the frame, "they had a small slack and joined gently, then a bronze wire ring was placed, everything was heated with a blowtorch, when the bronze melted, by "capillarity" introduced between both pipes, a very strong and safe union. Here in my country, nobody does.

Thanks for the suggestion Peter. I did look through the services database as a first port of call. Saddleworth being  not too far away looked promising. So I emailed Mark at Saddleworth Classics. He replied to say that he no longer did that kind of work.

Does the services database need updating after someone else double checks with Mark ?

Duncan.
