Gear change mechanism

Forums

Has anyone please got a picture of the gear change mechanism of a 350 Navigator 1961 model. I've put new oil seals on the shaft and when the casing was refitted, I was able to select first gear but no others. I can't get it out of gear now. I need to see if I've got the mechanism fitted correctly.

Thank you.

Andy, here is a pic of my gear change mechanism, had almost the same problem, Could´nt change gears down when I was in fourth gear. The legs of the pawl spring were a tad to short and went out of the guiding grove when changing gears. Bought it new from NOC spares. I refitted the old original one and had no more problems.

The lipped washer under the pawl spring is missing the pic.

Hi Andy,

Thanks, Ulrich, for your photo - but you are missing one component.

Under the spring, there must be a dished washer, to hold the spring in position.

Part 13 in the attached drawing.

I wrote in my post with the pic the washer is missing.

I installed it when assembling the gearbox.

Should you make sure that the gearbox is in neutral before putting the cover on?

I read somewhere the quadrant should be turned towards the right.

So I guess it the gearbox is in fourth gear ?

I fitted my outer cover regardless to the position of the quadrant and it worked.

Andy can help you, I guess

Many thanks to everyone who came to my help. The job is now done. The quadrant had moved on the first put together so caused the selector to stick in first. The second fitting went correctly. Again, thanks to everyone.
