1001 uses for mole grips #375

Forums

Out for a thrash on the ES2 this morning. Noticed it was popping a bit on the overrun – called in for a coffee and saw the silencer bracket had sheared and the whole weight of the pipe & silencer was hanging off the cylinder head thread….

A few minutes thought and I realised I could use the mole grips to clamp the remains to the frame using a couple of 10p pieces as spacers. Worked well for the 20 miles home.

It’s the first problem I’ve had with the Norton other than losing the rear light first time out….

Nice fix Ian.

I once broke the spokes on my rally car steering wheel so used a pair of mole grips clamped onto the top of the steering column and drove it home.  Such a versatile tool. :)

It certainly is versatile , going back home from Blackpool one early morning I caught all the lights up to Preston. When I came to the first red one at the docks I couldn't find any gear, looking down the gear lever had gone awol .Out with the moles and as gently as possible clamp them to the splines without damaging them, then reaching down and changing gear by hand it got me back home to Westhoughton safe and sound.

I didn't want to change gear with my foot in case I accidently opened the grips with a clumsy right boot. :)
