frame number

Forums

Hi all

I have just bought a 1961 Norton jubilee delux, It needs to be registered but I can't find the frame number anywhere, I have looked as much as I can but hopefully someone can tell me where exactly to look.

Thanks Mark

Unusually it’s down by the rear footrest mounting or on the gusset beside it. Carefully remove the paint and it should reveal itself!

Yes mine looks like that. It looks like it was done by a child or on Friday after a lunchtime session on the pub (more likely).

The numbers are so bad that the inspector from the DVLA tried to use talc to make it stand out better. In the end I held a light at 45 degrees to the numbers and his camera captured an image that we couldn't see! He was satisfied with that and I have matching numbers for frame and engine.

Try looking on the right hand frame side. On the lower lug where the straight down tube is bolted. The photo from Bruce seems to be a standard lightweight frame. You'll see the lug I mean in his photo.

Standard frames have welded side frame tube as you see in the photo. With frame numbers in a different location.

Hi

Thanks for all the help from all of you, as a result of the picture from Bruce that put me in the area and the suggestion from Pete to look at the other side of the bike, successful conclusion as you can see. This was my first experience of help from the club as a new member and I am well impressed.
