Very odd top yoke

Forums

Hi,

Having managed to wrestle the top yoke off my Domi forks I’ve now discovered what I believe to be another bit of butchery by a previous owner (please see attached photos).

I’m new to Nortons but that yoke just doesn’t look standard (or safe). It looks like someone has taken an angle grinder to the original handlebar mounts (possibly to make the bike into a cafe racer with clip-ons) and then at some later date tried to return the yoke to conventional handlebars by bolting on some strange separate handlebar mounts (from who knows where).

I intend attempting to find a new top yoke as the current one is just plain scary. Hopefully that won’t be another ‘mission impossible’ task.

Views/opinions on my current top yoke? Maybe someone out there will tell me that I’ve got a very rare top yoke used by the works race team - but I somehow doubt it :-)

Thanks

Regards

Tony

The very early Wideline Dominators did have a top yoke that afforded rubber mounted handlebars with the bars attaching to two trunnions that were mounted to the top yoke with a rubber mounting arrangement secured by bolts.  I think your top yoke has probably been used with clip-on handlebars at some time when the lugs were simply sawn off.  Then at some time it has reverted to standard handlebars with the arrangement you have shown.  I have to say that there is nothing wrong with what you have so long as everything fits together properly - I'd prefer that to the rubber mountings of yore...........Cheers, Howard

Tony.

That looks a right old mess. I might just have what you need. I inherited a box of bits from the son of my 1960 Domi's previous owner and I think there's a top yolk but, I'll have to check.

The rubber mounted handlebar clamps are available from R.G.M., if you need them (at least, they were last year)  Unfortunately (for the nit pickers) they are stainless steel, not chromed.

Hi John,

Thanks for the info regarding the rubber mounted bar clamps. I had a look at them on the RGM site but they need round holes on the yoke for the mounting points - my yoke has oval- shaped holes where the original clamps have been removed (badly). Therefore, unfortunately, the rubber mounting option isn’t available to me.

Tony
