I'm about to drop the forks out of my '55 ES2. The good book states that all the cable connections (clutch, brake, throttle, adv/ret lever and exhaust lifter) to the h/bars should be removed prior to removing the bars. Update. Having now looked at it (should have done that first!) I see that the brake lever at least has to be disconnected at one end or the other to release the front wheel. Still not sure about the others.

In case anyone else is…
In case anyone else is considering doing their head bearings I've started on the job and it is evident that the clutch, adv/ret and front brake all have to be disconnected as the cables (at least on my bike) pass through the speedo panel. As noted above the brake cable obviously has to be disconnected to release the front wheel.
Many thanks to Kevin for his prompt response.

Just a thought
If you remove all cables from the handlebar, it is a good opportunity to oil them easily. Something often neglected.

short cuts
Hello there is Not many Shortcuts on a Norton doing the job right you may find it's better and somewhat easier to then you can attend to other parts of your motorcycle before re-assembly
now have fun with it all and try not to lose one temper, that's the time to go for cupper tea to have a rethink and cool down take things nice and easy, do not try to rush any reassembly, check things as you go, yours anna j

I suppose that taking everything off the bars limits any accidental damage that might occur, but I would just be taking the whole lot off and wrapping it in an old towel or something.
