Can someone help with where the spring for the centre stand locates.
Hi Martin - there is alrea…
Hi Martin - there is already a thread which might help. "Centre stand spring pre-Featherbed ES2". I'll check on my '55 ES2 in the morning and report back. I know the stand is fitted with a steel clip to which the spring attaches but can't remember how the spring attached at the top. very difficult to fit, though. George

While talking of pre F/bed centre stand springs, perhaps you could update on the 57/58 spring that nobody appears to supply! The current fall back position is a plastic cable tie. Not good enough...

I've checked mine Martin (pre-featherbed '55 ES2) and the spring attaches to a "stud" with a radial groove protruding forwards from the swinging arm cross member. George

1955 ES2 stand sping
Martin,
Here is a photo showing the "stud", old spring and the "P" clip that fits onto the centre stand cross tube. This P clip is prone to rubbing the tube and wearing both the tube and the clip.
I'm pretty sure that I bought a new stand spring from Martyn Bratby at the Bath and West Autojumble. They are the same as on the single downtube Model 7 frame, up to 1955.
