Hi all,
my bike was an exported Interpol mk2a of 74 vintage, it was re imported to uk in 85 so on V5 first reg is May 85 it has an age related M reg plate as it was made in 74. Am I right in that to qualify as historic the cut off is jan 74? Also is it a rolling 40 year cut off and will my machine be eligible next year ?
I just taxed my commando after it being laid up since 1985 it all went through fine but finished up by stating I may be contacted by the dvla due to the gap in taxation. Because SORN did not come in till much much later I did not need to SORN during the lengthy period off road, although i know it is fine it is still a bit unsettling :/
all the best

Shouldn't be a marathon,…
Shouldn't be a marathon, it can be done at the post office when applying for your tax disc. If your V5c states that the vehicle was declared manufactured in 1974, regardless of date of first registration, you will be able to change the taxation class on 1st April 2015 & will then get your FOC tax, although as I understand it, we won't get a disc to display anymore after October this year. If your V5 doesn't state that the machine was manufactured in 74, this is where the club comes in, get in touch with records & dating, they will give you a dating letter which you can send to DVLA to get your V5 ammended. You can do this now so it's already sorted for April next. There's a bit more on this here,

Yes, make sure you tax it…
Yes, make sure you tax it in April 2015. We only went one year on the rolling 25 years in 1997 and Gordon Brown put a stop to it.
Might be worth asking the ultra Green Ed 'climate change' Miliband what he intends to do? Maybe he will make a Nick Clegg style pledge?

Oh that pledge will be so…
Oh that pledge will be so worth waiting for!
there is a company around here who clear septic tanks, on the side of the lorry is ". Full of politicians promises" which is quite apt as the longer I have occupied my place on the planet the more hopeless any of these jokers have turned out to be. Harsh but sadly true.

Further variations to the process hit me yesterday. My Mk1A was manufactured Sept '73 as shown on the VIN plate but V5C only shows date of first reg. as 7th Jan '74 with no manufacturing date. Took V5C and MOT to post officebut computer would not allow Historic disc to be processed. Rang DVLA who informed me that V5C must show manufacture date and I could make a postal application with approved dating evidence supplied - when I told them I can supply a NOC dating certificate the nice lady informed me owner's club documenation is not accepted ("anymore" were her actual words)and they need a copy of factory records.
Road tax is due Nov this year so if I pay tax as normal will the DVLA system then automaticallyallow Historic registration in 2015? Or is it still worthtrying the NOC dating service anyway and hoping for the best with DVLA ?

I have tried using the NOC…
I have tried using the NOC Dating Cert and it has been rejected by DVLA, bike has the manfacture date Nov 73 stamped on the headstock and confirmed by Dating cert but first reg date is 05/74.

hi gaz.
if your bike was off the road before the sorn regulations came in you don,t need to sorn.i know a few owners with bikes still off the road and not on a sorn.but soon as you tax it.you then have to sorn.also any vehicule manufactured before 31 dec 1973 will be road tax free once your log book has been changed to [historic] to change the wording on the log book is a bit of a marathon' but the club can help with that. i.ve just done that myself.hope///// this is of help .
