Well that's not a very nice thing to say.. It seems to me as if you under appreciate the work put in by the editor and everyone else who contributes to the magazine.

I have been told by someone who already has their copy that there are two articals in it that will interest me, so I must be more easily entertained than you.

I only received Feb Roadholder a week ago here in OZ. I note that it was posted from U.K. this time.

I must add, that the motorcycle depicted on front cover with the chair attached, is a Triumph twin from pre '57, not a 19s as stated P.2.

Never the less, I enjoy all the photo's from yesteryear no matter what Brit motorcycleis shown.wink

Hello all, we have spent some time trying to sort out late deliveries etc. of Roadholder but it would appear that there are still issues which I will endeavour to sort out. Ref the 'Triumph/Norton on the front cover of the Feb issue I have had a number of comments about this - all I can say is 'sorry' - the caption was as written on the back of the photo and I trusted that it was correct - I live and learn! (It's a nice photo though isn't it?). I'm sorry that Anna isn't happy with the magazine - I try my best!

I can't agree with the above........ remember the Roadholder has to try and be of interest to a membership who have a huge and diverse range of motorcycles. Plus it is largely dependent on people submitting articles that are diverse and interesting in order for it to be so.I think that the magazine is much improved. Not too long ago you could predict exactly what the content would be in each issue from page 4 onwards. Nowadays, it is a far more balanced read. O.K. it does not always have something for everybody but it is up to those who feel deprived to do something about that.Very shortly, there will be the NOC AGM where members can change the way things happen. So how about someone proposing that the executive roles of Chairman, Editor and Technical Administrator be combined into one. I'm all for that.Vote for Anna!!!

Anna for Editor! - The club's new slogan. It's so easy to criticise, so difficult to actually do the work. A spell editing Roadholder would be a salutory lesson for our outspoken critic.

Mwanwhile, hats off to Mark who is doing a grand job.

Just a quick comment from a newbee, i like mine unfortunatly i have just lent it to a friend who always returns them but feel sure there was a item saying that it is now available on line somewhere on this site which will help i am sure those in distant parts for the adds etc, the artical on pump overhaul last month was good for me , and the out and about and forthcoming rallies interesting.

Is that "spell" as in "spelling", Gordon ? If so then I fear that it will be impossible.

It is sometimes tempting to say to complainants "If you think you can do better..." but in this particular case, a proven track record in constructing unintelligible posts and offending all and sundry really does suggest that it wouldn't be a good idea....

I received my Roadholder on time and as usual found it compared very favourably with other club magazines with a variety of well written articles. I think it must be more of a struggle to fill club magazines nowdays, when there are forums like this, where it is very easy for someone (like me) to instantly type out a few words. I would challenge those who knock the magazine to write at least one well written article this year. I will even attempt to do so myself.

Cheers Jak

ps. I also pass my Roadholder onto a non club member with an interest in classic bikes and he always appreciates it.

I look forward to the post man putting my Roadholder through the letter box more than I do the sack load of Valentine cards I get every year.

But it still hasnt arrived.

I think the editor is doing an excellent job and let's face it, much of the content is down to us members. Many times Mark has had to write articles himself, such as the excellent series on electronic ignitions. I suppose if you are only interested in mags and nothing else then this update is wasted. I look forward to my copy every Month.

How about club create a head of PR Executive position, where Anna could stand as the leading candidate?

I enjoy Roadholder and look forward to it. I think it is quite rude that contributors efforts are criticised when clearly a lot of effort goes into the mag. At least its usually grammatically correct and intelligible.

Keep editing Guys, I enjoy my Roadholder and I believe there was no Roadholder issued in January, all was said in December & February.

Hello all. I'm pleased with the content of the April Roadholder (I hope you all approve too) but some of the photo's are not good (too dark etc.). I have approached the printer and they are looking into my concerns.

Well done Skippy.

My latest RH came yesterday and will be my bed time reading for the next few nights. Got to have something to look forward to when retiring to ones pit.

As Anna seems happy to contribute to this website then maybe she would like to send some articles to our hard working editor. He is after all just the editor so if he has little copy to work with then what is the poor man to do.

Hi.just a suggestion .halve the amount of roadholder mags a year . have a downloadable pdf format roadholder mag for members outside uk to solve postage problems. with there being only halve the amount of mags to produce over the year less strain all around and more ideas/info would come forward. Hi Barry et all. A few points:

1) When I took over as Roadholder Editor it had gone up to 12 issues per year six months earlier,

2) We're still trying to overcome technical issues with online publishing in .pdf format (please be patient!).

3) At present I'd like to think that Roadholder has sufficient interesting content to keep members reasonably happy. I don't want to revert to six issues per year! Comments are always welcome .... .

I was overjoyed to read Ken Sprayson's contribution. It gives me an idea for a new club rule: All club officials should be made to pull their own weight by contributing their thoughts, especially if their place in history is firmly assured.

I would be happy to hear from our vice-presidents if only to know how they are feeling today. We are all lucky to be living in the same era.

By mentioning Ken Sprayson, Jonathan has almost answered his own question about NOC vice-presidents. Stan, Peter and Ken have all contributed directly or indirectly to recent articles in Roadholder.

In the forthcoming May edition there should be a lengthy article about the 650 twins. The number of EC officials, members and others who contributed to or checked the draft for errors was so great that the 'thanks' list had eventually to be left out of the article.

There are a great number of NOC people who work very hard to make both events and Roadholder happen. Many are unsung heroes!!! What I like reading is contributions from the ordinary NOC member telling us about the history of their treasured machines and how they overcame those niggling hassles that arrive out of the blue to spoil the fun.

While living in the antipodes has it's benefits, it has the drawback of having to wait 2 - 4 weeks for the mail to arrive from U.K., this means I always read out of date news! If there were to be a digital copy of the R.H. put onto the Club web site when the hard copies wereposted out, this would giveALL members the same opportunity to be up to date simultaneouslywith adverts, events, etc..Though, I seem to think that therecould besomething 'in the wind' to ammend this!...?

Hi Paul,

If you look at

http://www.nortonownersclub.org/html/Roadholder/327/index.html

You will see the Feb issue in online readable format. This gives you a flavour of things to come. Technical problems have slowed things down for a while but it will happen.

Note, path is (first be logged in) then Roadholder - Archive issues - scroll right to the bottom. Do not bother with any of the others yet.

Regards

Tony

Hi Paul,

You were lucky. I have just received my March Roadholder on Friday.

(Came in the same mail delivery as the April UK VMCC magazine). Normally both editions of the same month have turned up together. I suppose I can't blame Aust Post as the April VMCC magazine has arrived.

I ordered some 650SS pistons by phone from RGM on Thursday night and they have arrived at my village post office this morning. Excellent service again.

OK, I just received my April, No.329, Roadholder here on Friday 24th. BUT, thanks to Mark and the effort of the other Clubvolunteers, Iwas able to read it much earlier'on line'which kept meup to date with the adverts and general news/articles, ETC. Makes me feel asbeing not so far away. ;)

Cheers,

Paul

Hi Paul, with regard to Roadholder 'online' the main thanks should go to Chris Grimmett (Webmaster) as he spent many hours solving issues etc. We are now atarting to upload older editions onto the website thus, eventually, creating an on-line archive. This archive obviously won't go right back to 1959 however (possibly 2009)!

Hello Lionel well since 1996 am not doing too bad after a complete nervous break down and near complete loss of memory and having spent 3 months in hospital and then having too re-learn every thing again on my own, So keep up your hard work on me! and tell the web master there is no spell checker on this site, I am not having A go at Mark Has He dose a very hard job in his condition But more top storys can be sent to the Editor, and In Sweden there Magazine is in A4 and a lot better than ours, I have some copys sent too me, and you see there format is a lot better, and makes for good reading, and somthing you can pick up time over time and you find somthing you missed, And its more in contact with its members, Were I find this Club Is very remote from its Membership, Yours Anna J Dixon

There is a spell checker option for users of the massage broads. On my screen it is in the top row of scons at the right hand end. Of course, if people don't use it, they risk posting massages with peeling mistakes.

The only problem I would have with an on-line Roadholder is that I couldn't take my desktop computer with me into the uh, "library".

I seem to recall see the Swedish magazine and it is very good however I think it was quite an infrequent publication (quarterly or even annually - I cannot remember). As such if Roadholder was as infrequent it could easily become A4 with plenty of full pages of info etc.

A cheap 7" tablet connected to your adsl wifi would allow the reading "material" to migrate to the library.

Stuff the tablets and library bookworming. Give me a taste of the Swedish Massage Broads instead.

If the Swedish clone of Roadholder is that good, then perhaps the NOC Editor could borrow a few items to help pad out our magazine in those times when copy is not so abundant. Mind you the only Swedish words I know are ABBA and Volvo, so there might be a 'lost in translation' issue here. Perhaps Anna can help with this?
