Guys, the petrol tank brackets on my frame are missing or modified. I have now sorted the rear one out, but could anybody please tell me what the measurement should be, between the hole centres of the front petrol tank mounting bracket?
Maybe this is a stupid rep…

I believe this gentleman posted earlier in regard to his rear tank bracket and , IIRC , in the post he said it was a non standard tank so I assume he has no tank to measure . It looks to be 5 3/8" - as near as I can tell without disassembly . Hope this is of some help .

Richard, you are spot on. I am thinking of ordering one of the 'Indian tanks' but in the meantime I am fabricating both brackets. The good news is that should the tank be slightly out in it's structure I can adapt the brackets before putting in final position.
The rear bracket is 5.5" between centres and whilst the front looks similar I want to be sure what my start point should be.

Peter -
The front bracket may very well be 5 1/2" as well - it is unlikely that at they would use two different
dimensions for want of 1/8 " . It is difficult to accurately measure mine without disassembly .

Attachments show my ES2 frame and the tank mounting points.
Measurements are - Front - 138mm or 5.45"
The distance between front and rear is 358mm or 14.125"
I purchased a replica ES2 tank from an Indian supplier for about £250. This amount included postage and a fuel cap. When the parcel man arrived at my door, in the UK, I was hit with an £80 bill for taxes and paperwork. The tank did not match the original ebay pictures and was probably a second or reject sold on by a third party. Who promptly went on hoilday and shut down his account. The tank did fit the mounting points on my bike but the underside, fuel filler and fuel tap mounting did not match those of my original tank.

Philip, many thanks for the measurements and the warning on Indian tanks. I hear there are one or two recommended Indian sellers and a lot that are not!

Phillip - They must have been looking in the mirror when they located the filler - or perhaps left is right and right is left in India !

Sideways opening as well ? On War Department tanks, that was a sign that it was to be fitted with a tank-top Vokes filter

Maybe this is a stupid reply, but, will not the tank bracket measurement be the same as the center to center measurement of the petrol tank mounting holes?
