Nortons near London?

Forums

Hi all, I have a message in the off-topic section about my upcoming trip from the USA to London England Sept. 11-18.

I have had some great suggestions, but I was also wondering what Norton related vendors might be near the London area? Or perhaps a collection of Nortons, or a few club members who would like to meet at a pub or cafe during my visit.

Most of my UK vendors are 2-3 hours North of London & I may do a loop up North to catch a visit with them if time allows, but would really enjoy seeing a few Nortons while visiting :)

Thanks,

Skip

On my next trip I plan to visit Dave Degens. About 15 miles south of London. He's mainly a Triton man but still a living legend. And I have some business to transact with him anyway.

Hi Skip I am not sure when you are arriving on the 11th but on that day and just north west of London is the Oxford Branch cafe racer day. Apart from that I am sure some of the other members will make themselves available that week. I am not sure of work commitments but will try my best. Regards Graham

Skip... if you want vendors.. there's Russell Motors at Clapham Junction. Two stops on the trains from platforms 1 to 4 Waterloo. Norton and Matchless parts specialist. Les is charge of spares. He worked at Plumstead as I understand it.Surrey NOC meet 2nd Wednesday = 14 th at a pub about 35 mins from Waterloo. Last train back leaves 5 mins up the road at 10 pm. How many bikes depends on the weather!

Wow, great ideas!

After looking at my airline ticket, I wont actually be arriving into the UK until 7:50am on the 12th, so Ill sadly miss the Ocford Branch Cafe day.

I would be honored to attend the Surrey Branch meeting! Anthony & I can bore everyone with Nomad facts, as we both own Nomads :)

Is this the place?

Skip...that's the place. I don't know for sure but I don't think we have a guest speaker that night. You could email the committee. The last train is 11 pm. I use the train if I want a beer and the weather is bad.

A further suggestion for you to consider Skip is a visit to Brooklands Motor Museum at Weybridge in Surrey (train from Waterloo - c20 minutes).

Brooklands is the home of motor racing and aviation in this country and has been the site of many motor cycle meetings and record attempts. There is a large collection of planes, cars, motorbikes, bicycles and buses, together with what remains of the banked racing track, Clubhouse, Test Hill etc. You will need a full day to do it justice and, if you do decide to include it in your itinerary, I'll be delighted to see you there and show you around.

Oh, Mercedes-Benz World is also on site and well worth a visit too (and it's free!)

We have two speakers who will be coming along to the Surrey section at the address that you have shown above. This will be on the 14 September, and they are both ex factory road testers who had a lot of input concerning the early Commando's and the frame breakages. There will a film and a slide show that Alan Jones has informed me he will be showing. We at the Surrey section try to get as many interesting speakers for our club nights. We also have some other speakers lined up for later in the year. I could pick you up at East Croydon station and then take you to our club night.

Hi Skip

Great news that you are visiting us in the UK. Where are you planning to stay? Are you bringing family with you. You are welcome to stay with me in SE London Bromley. I have a spare room you can have. Unfortunately I'm busy on the evening on the 14th but Tony lives nearby and I'm sure he would happily take you along to the Surrey Branch meeting. Ken Rawlinson will be going too who also lives close by.

I also live in the Bromley area and will be going to Dorking (by Norton) If anyone wants to convoy we could meet up at Westerham for a run along the A25 ,between us we could rustle up some riding gear? ,if Skip is brave enough!!.

Hi Paul,

thank you for the very generous offer! The company I work for has me booked all week at a hotel in London. My days Monday- Wednesday are losely scheduled, but I am free in the evenings & all day Friday & Saturday. I am thinking that I will be at an Autojumble with Anthony on Saturday, hope to see some of the members in person there.

Hi Robert,

I am always up for a challenge :)

driving on the opposite side of the road & roundabouts going the opposite way will be interesting to say the least !

Hi Anthony,

thanks for the invite & if your speakers dont show up I am happy to talk about magnetos & dynamos, or the others can roast me about Americanisms :)

Hi Graham, I will leave the USA at noon on the 11th, which puts me in at Heathrow at 7:50am Monday morning on KLM flight 6103.

Sadly I will miss that event.

Hi Skip

You would have met with a rather wet English weekend anyway. If I finish early enough I might have a run over the The Stepping Stones on the 14th.
