Dominator 99 tank screw dimensions

do you not mean BA3 there not metric, BA stans for British assocated Thread size. (0) to (9) in there size range,

BA threads are normally used for electrical fastenings. Switches, magnetos, ammeters etc.

3 BA is rarely used ....normally its 0 , 2 , 4 and 6BA.. I have some 10 BA screws and they are pretty small. They're ,not there, are an interesting thread , the dimensions almost metric

On the Slimline tank, the badges are definitely held in place by 3BA screws. I gues that the Wideline badge has similar items. Colin is quite correct in that, generally, even number BA screws were the norm but in this case, Norton chose to be different. Most good Stainless suppliers have these in stock but you may have to cut to length.

Small BA screws are used in the aircraft industry ,as well as electrical industry but there are BA screws on a Norton if you know where there fitted some are on the handle bar levers and switchs some are in magnetos too I do find BA and BSF and Whitworth a Cycle thread fasteners very intresting, thats what real makes a Bracebridge Street Norton uneek and fasanating machine . were as metric is boring, threads

our old Bracebridge Street Norton's have a sole all of there own , yours Anna j

I realise the above posting was written over a year ago but I don't agree. I have just checked the threads in a 1957-59 wideline tank that I'm about to use and the two screw holes that go behind the knee rubbers are 1/4x26tpi so they can not be UNF (which I believe is 28tpi).

Hope this stops someone using the wrong tap!

The two badge screw holes are indeed 3BA (34.8tpi).

I have just come across this thread (pun intended) and I am somewhat bemused by the discussion. Does nobody ever simply look at some obvious documents, or know where information is readily accessible. If you simply go to the Norvil website, look up their price list (or look in the paper copy if you have one), and click on "Petrol Tanks"you will see the screws you require listed. Not only are they listed, with relevant dates for the tanks,but the size and thread forms are also contained in the description.

Agreed - lots of info on the web, but it would be nice if the length of screws/bolts/studs were published, as well as just their diameter or type as in the case of BA items.

There is a very useful reference for all Triumph fasteners available (by old and new part numbers!) which is a Godsend if you have to make up a bit without a sample. I'm unaware of a Norton equivalent? There is one for Commando's I think, but for the early twins it can be a little challenging.

But the info is all out there. Somewhere.......

According to the Norvil site the tank badge screws on a 1955-1957 Dominator petol tank are 4BA and 3BA from 1957 on.

Although mine is a 1957 model, the badge screws are in fact 4BA, so maybe because the tanks appear to be identical an earlier tank is fitted to my machine.

In view of this I am again looking at the kneepads and the screw holes are at 4 1/8 inch centers and wonder whether the original were held in place with screws???.

Any ideas please.

As Anna says.....It sounds that if the bracebridge street Nortons are a bit 'down at the heel' as they have "sole" . I hope the uppers are OK !

All my slimline tank badges are 3BA but the round plastic badges on my 57 Pre F/bed Model 50 are held on with 4BA.
