Dominator primary chaincase

Forums

Hi,

When fitting the inner half of the primary chaincase, is there anything that should be fitted over the l/h serrated footrest spacer, between the flat flange and the chaincase please? There is a gap, but I can't find anything listed in the parts list. Many thanks in advance.

The attachment shows gasket set to suit a 650 Dominator. Most of the 4 chunks in the far right column are needed for the primary chaincase.

The top item....rubber disc goes inside the chrome inspection cap.

The large rubber washer fits inside the outer chaincase hole where the serrated footpeg tube passes through.

The smaller rubber washer sits on the shoulder of the serrated tube and the inner case butts up against this.

What the cork disc does I can not remember. Help Needed Here

Thanks Phil,

Strangely, none of those items are in the full gasket set I got from Andover Norton. I may have to make one myself!

Thanks again.

Hi Steve, are you referring to the pressed metal type case, if you are, there is a felt washer behind the inner case up against the flanged spacer (thick enough to seal off gap), then a much thicker felt washer that fits over the serratedfoot rest spigotafter the inner case is fitted, this fits into the recess on the inside of the outer cover.

cheers, Paul

Hi Paul,

Thanks for replying, yes it is the pressed steel case. I do have a couple of felt seals, but they are all the same size. I can only find the one part no. (042055), which is 1 7/16" OD x 31/32" ID x 7/32" thick; I'm wondering if I can use it for both positions?

Thanks again, Steve.

So glad I found this thread as I am also struggling with reassembly of the pressed steel chaincase on my 650SS. I bought it last summer, ran it until winter and then took it off the road and stripped it right down for a full overhaul. Now I am putting everything back together again, I am finding bodges made by previous owners. Between the shoulder of the spacer between the engine plate and the inner chaincase, I found three mis-matched steel washers. I tried the assembly without them, as they were obviously 'wrong' for original equipment, but there was too much slack on the spacer, so I put them back, thinking they might have been in place of a spacer. Then I thought that there would be no need for a spacer, Norton could have just machined the shoulder further up the engine plate spacer. That made me check Andover Norton's drawings which showed a felt washer - but that was inside of the outer cover. Further searching on here revealed a felt washer where I have the three steel washers, but it was in the Singles forum. Then I found this thread! Hooray! I now reckon I will get three or four felt washers, fit one on the outside of the inner case, and two on the inside. I will continue to watch this thread to see what develops!

Cheers,

Kevin

Thanks, Fritz. I saw that and noted that item 4 - possibly the felt washer for the back of the inner chaincase - doesn't have a part number, hence my thoughts on fitting item 8 in the indicated position and also one at the rear. Just waiting to hear from Andover as to if this is feasible. :)
