Re: blue pipes
Am I wrong in thinking that the very bule chrome exhaust pipes are the result of a very lean running condition?
Or is the color (colour for you in Britspeak) the result of very thin header pipes and thin chrome?

Pipes blued straight away from new. Talking to somebody on the Norton stand at Stafford showin 2014 I think it was , when bike had done1,500 miles odd , he told me all 961's coming in for a servicewould beremapped as they had discovered original ECU mixture settings were too lean and bikes would run better with the remap. Bike went for a service a month or two later and was remapped. Did seem to run better after this although not a lot of difference as it wasrunningOK before.
Bike runsreally well today althoughwhen I started it up the other day in my dark garage noticed the firstthree inches of pipes glowing a dull cherry colour !

Michael , hi ya , as us 961,ers are aware , our bikes r unlike the jap bikes with double skinned header pipes & chrome , 961 pipes are stainless, change various colours according to mileage & fueling

Mine is Sept 17 Ferrari yellow Euro4 Sport - special paint order that went through the factory in August - was surprised in October when the 961 California was released to see yellow reinstated as a standard colour - guess someone at the factory wondered why they dropped the yellow a few years ago - it now has Oberon bar-end mirrors, short noisy pipes and de-catted

Hi Alan, I saw a very new yellow 961 at theNOCIncider rally at Weston Super Mare last year. I helped him back onto his "take to bits" trailer on the Monday, Was this you. If so, you were instrumental in persuading me to get my money out and buy one, I ordered a 50th anniversary 961 in Manx silver, due for delivery on 1st March. so, thanks for that !

Hi Alan C2 - yes, that was me at the Incider - I had only had the bike a week. Glad to know that you have ordered one - I'm sure you will not be disappointed. I traded my 2013 sport in at Teasdales in Thirsk who are an excellent Norton dealer. It had done 8k miles and they sold it straight away - I had always fancied a yellow twin seat which is what I've got now.

Hi Alan, I've just had a call from Clem at the Norton factory who confirmed that everything is on track for a 1st of March delivery of my 961. He told me that theyintended to fit the "free flowing" short silencers from new rather than fit them at the first service. He said that due to the bad weather they were struggling to get the road testing done for the number of bikes they have got going out on March 1st.They obviously don't want to get a brand new bike filthy dirty in the winter salt and are struggling to get the 20 mile road test in before the bikes go out. The weather man has promised sunshine for Thursday andFriday of this week so I imagine there will be a few 961s flying round Castle Donnington towards the back end of this week. Cheers Big Alan

Hi Alan - the introduction…
Hi Alan - the introduction of the 50th anniversary models with all the extras seems to have spurned quite a few people to buying them, especially for Mar 1st delivery. I noticed that they are fitting the short silencers plus decat pipes from new - saves mucking around with a remap as there are different ones for std pipes, short pipes only as well as short pipes plus decat. Let's hope the weather is sunny in March and you can get the bike run-in for the summer - there is a nice surge of power as you go through 5k revs. I've also changed the indicators to the pointy type ones on Triumphs etc as I think the std ones are a bit old fashioned.

Dave crashed it with light but expensive damage, bike was written off & he bought it back, bought the alloy tank & replaced faulty parts himself ( he an engineer/ mechanic ) one of those guys who if he canât find it heâll make it ,so dismantling the bike & repainting things is all in a days work for him , & think he fancied copying that Ducati 916 picture that was once done .

Went from stock 85 to 110 spring since forks had almost 2 inch sag ( 48 mm ) at half preload . 85 is what I used on a 385 Lb Yam FZ 07. Norton 961 is 515 Lbs at full tank.
Now have 33 mm sag with zero preload adjustment , 170 Lbs rider weight.
Made some aluminum spacers to replace stock plastic ones while I was at it.
Have spring compressor which allowed me to do job without taking fork off bike.

Not very many bikes out there, and most are collectors that don't ride much, at least in the US.
Other thing I'm doing is the BMW F 800 Power Commander fitting I saw mentioned on this forum. Part # PC 12-009
From what I have read, plugs in except for TPS, which has to be tapped into the wires.
Not sure if wire parallel or in series. I'll find out, soon, and get it mapped on a dyno.
This after I have 5 or 600 miles on the bike. Bought it with 189 miles and up to 260
miles with last Sunday's ride.
Want to keep this bike stock in appearance, so I may live with the pipe dragging.
I may raise the whole bike 1 inch to get more clearance.
More info and pictures in the "All The Tire " post.
