Frame type

Forums

I have a wideline framed triton, which was originally built up in the 1960's. Although a 1950's frame and engine, it is registered as 1965. I am therefore to get a dating certificate from the club and put an age related plate on it. While I'm at it, I would like an opinion on whether this frame is Reynold's tubing. Would the dating process do that for me?

Hello Len - Do you mean Reynolds 531 tubing ? The Manx featherbed frames were constructed from this type of tubing. Scratch away a little paint on the side gusset plates or head stock and if you see evidence of brazing (brass weld) then it may well be a Manx. An image or two may assist us. Regards, Howard

Genuine featherbed manxes have frame numbers beginning 17 for 40M and 11M2 for 30M. 88 dominators have 122, 99 dominators 14 and 650 dominators 18. Manx frames lack the gussets around the head stock which were used on the road going frames.I think ES2 was 4 and model 50 was 13, Inters were 10 &11.

Ooops, made a mistake myself, should be 10M.

Excuse me, don't have one in my bedroom.

You are right, checking shows featherbed manx 40 as 10M2., 10M is earlier manx 40,

Sorry ,

Charles.
