I have a large collection of used plugs ,some fouled with oily sooty deposits and some with residue from dissolving tank liner ( thanks EU!) . The sooty ones will recover if fitted to a hot clean running motor and given a blast up the road. Nothing seems to work with the tank liner deposits though, any ideas?.

I think I remember reading that the ceramic electrodes are not as robust as they were and they should not be cleaned with a wire brush, I just wipe mine clean.

My friend uses one of those sand blasters with the little cloth bag that attaches to a compressor. The plugs look great when they come out but if you look deep down along the side of the insulator you almost always find grit stuck in the bottom. I use a wire brush on mine.

Dan understands , They don't make plugs anymore for old bikes that insist on running rich or have ignition issues. THe old plugs responded to cleaning and lasted for years after. I can clean off old plugs at the roadside and get home. New plugs are another matter ,once dead they stay dead. Tank liner dissolved in petrol and burnt onto the insulator will kill old or new plugs , and I have a good selection of old style but new condition plugs that are now irreplaceable that I need to clean of tank liner. I may try soaking them in tank liner stripper.I am having the remains of the liners stripped out too, may have to have a new tank. Thanks EU, hello dodgy Indian offerering.
